My daughter Audrey got her first javelina this spring during the Juniors Only pig hunt. She went hunting with two of my friends’ sons – Mike’s son Ryan, and Rick's son Josh, all of which got their first javelina.
Josh was first on the scene of the herd and dropped his from 100 yds. The herd scattered. Audrey and I were about 1/2 mile away and saw 3 pigs scramble our way. Mike and Ryan got into another herd about 1 mile from Rick and Josh and Ryan shot his about 250 yards away. A very good shot on such a small animal.
Audrey and I went looking for the three we saw but didn't have much luck. The nice thing about Javelina is that if they get scattered one or two usually come back to where they were originally.
After searching some of the thicker brush for about an hour, Audrey and I headed towards the spot where Josh got his. We crested a small ridge and sure enough there was a pig heading our way about 100 yards from where Josh got his. As we tried to get set up on it, it became aware of us and started to trot away. I whistled at it to get it to stop, stopped it twice, and the 2nd place it stopped Audrey was able to get a shot at it. It was about 150 yards from us.
Three shots, three pigs, three happy hunters, in about 3 hours on opening morning. It doesn't get much better than that. - Ben Turkey 2010
